Steve Earl @ Otway Ranges, Great Ocean Road

Farmer-chef extraordinaire Steve Earl raises Welsh Black cattle for some of the best beef you'll find southwest of Melbourne - a visit to Earl's 45-hectare farm, very near the coast, might be a highlight of a food enthusiast's visit to Australia's Victoria state.

Earl & his partner Mikhiala Slade operate a restaurant called La Bimba, which serves not only fantastic meat but seafood that's fresh off the boat. If it’s on the menu, try Earl’s simple-looking but spectacular-tasting octopus tapas, blanched in seawater & paired with exquisitely soft potatoes and paprika, or the flathead fish with chermoula sauce. Archer the faithful dog approves.
