Calories @ Desa Sri Hartamas, Cafe Lapis @ Wangsa Maju & Cafe Bureau @ Kota Damansara

Checking out a set of suburban cafes with a clean, uncluttered look, soothing white shades & very friendly vibes, starting with Desa Sri Hartamas' Calories, which is spearheaded by the two sisters who run Bangsar's popular Mimpikita fashion boutique.

Calories offers a fair mix of recipes to woo breakfast, lunch & tea crowds, from Eggs Benedict with beef bacon in the morning to Mama's Daging Dendeng with rice in the afternoon & baked treats from Jaslyn Cakes for the evening, washed down with hot lattes, cold lemon & lychee soda or zero-calorie water. Prices feel reasonable, with most servings clocking in at under RM20.

Next up, Cafe Lapis, a cosy neighbourhood hideout in Wangsa Maju with a relatively creative collection of cross-border fare.

Some unorthodox temptations here, from the slow-roasted pulled lamb sandwich topped with tangy tabbouleh (RM15) to buffalo wings in sambal sauce (RM7), competently executed. Snacks include waffle fries with onion dip (RM8) & batter-fried florets of broccoli & cauliflower (RM5). Desserts include apple pie cupcakes & strawberry shortcake jars, while beverages span apple caramel floats (RM7.50) & chocolate malted milkshakes (RM8).

Final stop: Cafe Bureau, hidden in Kota Damansara's Cascades complex, ideal for customers who like lots of natural light.

Expect a crowd-pleasing selection here - beef sandwiches built with burger patties (RM19.90) & spicy lala pasta (RM15.90), with doughnuts, cakes & coffee all available too. Love the signs on the wall & the thoughtful little touches all around this place.
